Stator Question

Just bought a T500 from a salvage yard. Compression is 110 on each cylinder. Only had spark on one cylinder. Now for some unknown reason I don't have any spark. Found a manual but I have a question I hope someone can answer. When testing the resistance between the stator and 3 wires from the stator; does the stator needs to be removed from the bike as shown in the manual. I am hoping so because my OHM meter pegs out on the first two wires I tested.

The stator can be tested in place. Best to go to Muzza's web site and get the T500 manual. Will be a great help.

Stator appears fine. I had not disconnected the wires but just pushed the OHM meter into the wire connection which means they were probaly connected upstream at rectifier or voltage regulator. When checking the resistance between the RG and YG wire the manual says that I should have no more than .6 resistance. I don't see any resistance so I should be okay as far as the stator goes. Will now check points and coils.

Zero resistance could mean "too low to measure" or it could also mean "open Circuit".

With points ignition, I'd focus on the ignition circuit to get it running and then with the motor running, check the alternator output.

Take the time to clean up all the old corroded contacts in the switches as well as engine ground, battery ground and all the bullets.

I'd open a set of points and test for 12v there and work back.

Ok. Now I have a nice blue spark at both plugs. Adusted points not sure if that did anything as they were set to about .019 and the book said they should be .012 - 0.16. I set them to .014. Cleaned wires and used file to clean up connectors. I think it was dirty connectors.
