New member, new project

Post by lrutt »

Hello.

Just picked up a 1970 T250. I've been looking for a 2 stroke for a while and this one just really appealed to me with the high pipes and all. So..now to get it sorted.

Runs like wholly crap. inspection revealed the PO must have cleaned out the jets with a 1/4" drill bit. They were huge, both pilot and main. So new proper sized jets are in. Just need to re-assemble and get it tuned.

If it runs good then I'll be purchasing some other parts to finish it out mechanically.

I'll be looking for:
- complete steering damper (this one is missing). Seen a couple on ebay but if a member has one for sale let me know.
- new brake shoes front and rear. ebay seems expensive for rears. any online vendors?
- new seat cover and foam. The cover design on this 70 seems unique. the ones advertised on ebay do not match the pattern.

I'm trying to keep it stock as I do with all my restorations. About the pain though. The original is there but lots of small scratches. I'd like to get some touchup that is close the fill in the scratches and wet sand it out, trying to keep as much of the original as possible. Any suggestions on a touchup that is close to that original yellow?

And has anyone had luck clear coating the original decals. These are still original and the clear coat is mostly peeled off. I'd like to retain the originals if at all possible. Not looking to make a 100 point bike here but keep it a preserved original. So any guidance on that would be appreciated.

And lastly, I've read a lot of posts where people have had problems with the oil line check valves on their bikes and new ones can't be had. I'd recommend checking the Seadoo parts sites. Their 2 stroke engines all used a check valve that can be purchased separately. I checked mine and they look like they would work fine. Just a suggestion if someone is in a bind.

Any help or suggestions on where to get parts would be greatly appreciated.

Your T250 looks really nice.

Would be useful if you could post a link to a Seadoo online parts manual that shows the check valves.

I'd go with aftermarket brake shoes.

According to an EBC retailer in England, EBC brake shoes are S608 for front & S609 for rear:

Haven't used them but it looks like they ship to the US.

A few EBC sets are available on eBay:

Corresponding Vesrah brake shoes are VB-304 for front & VB305 for rear.
Didn't find any on eBay at this time.

I'm curious about that seat, or at least the seat cover, AFAIK the diamond pleat top panels for the seats were only a 1969 offering.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Welcome to the board, and that is a sweet bike. Looks very original and pretty much complete with all the hard-to-find stuff like badges, etc.

Good luck with the recommissioning, keep us posted.

That's my problem. All the pictures I see of seats or covers available do not have that pattern.

Regardless, where would you recommend to purchasea seat cover?

US Suzuki brochure for 70 T250 showing diamond seat pattern:

PitReplica has two different seat covers. One might be correct.

If you get one, let us know how it worked out.
