spark plug gaps vs. updated ignition systems

Post by jabcb »

Some of older twins had plug gaps around .020" and the triples had gaps around .028".

Has anybody been using increased gaps with aftermarket coils and/or electronic ignition systems?
How has it worked out? Happy with the results?

I'd say its a design issue, a lot of the more modern road bikes still use a small gap even though they have electronic ignitions as stock items.
Bandits for example are using around 0.65mm as are a lot of the CBRs.
Compared to this, a lot of cars have been using 1.00mm to 1.10mm gaps for over 20 years now.
Two strokes, its just that simple.
