Spring Is Kind Of Here......

Post by H2RICK »

so I decided to de-winterize my 550 today.
Tank on and hooked up, some gas in the tank, battery in, choke on, two kicks......and away she goes. I love two strokes !!!
On Sunday I de-winterized both of my "diesels"......and they were spitting and grumbling until I took them on the road and blew out the cobwebs.
Not Indy, though......she was ready to rock right away.

For you guys that were discussing the wet-sumping problem on your triples awhile back, I had posted that I put my bike away for the winter with the oil tank mostly empty to prevent this problem......and it worked again this winter. No massive clouds or fouled plugs this spring, either. :D :D

I dragged the RZ out on Saturday and it took about 4 kicks with that old gas and clouds of smoke until I rode it and cleared its throat, then zero smoke when I got back home. I'd almost forgotten how sweet it was to wind it open

FINALLY, Uncle Ricks backyard glacier has retreated from around his home and the bikes can be fussed over once more.
I know hes one happy man now that spring has actually arrived in May, it was looong overdue.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Massive envy from this part of the world. I am doing the opposite :( :( The cold and the rain are starting to settle in so riding will be limited in the next few months.

Enjoy your new season guys, give the bikes lots of attention and ride, ride and then ride some more.

When I winterize mine, I fill the gas and oil tanks, lube the chain and remove the battery. In the spring I install the battery, check the oil and gas levels to make sure they're still full, kick her over slowly a couple of times to make sure everything feels OK, then hit the start button and move her from the shed to the garage. Do a compression test and record the readings, check them against last year's readings, check the plugs while they're out, gap them and install. Check the timing with a timing light, check the the tire pressure and the lights. Go for a 10-15 mile ride, come home, change the trans. oil, lube the chain, shine the chrome and I'm good to go for the season!
Got her ready to go to Port Dover for this week's Friday the 13th., and I'll be going to Deal's Gap the last week of May and again the first week of August!!

Spring is kind of coming and going here. Soon it will be June, and then no more snow for a few months (maybe!).

I have some new main jets on order for my T500. Those are due in this week, then I can put the carbs back on, put the battery in, and go get some gas for the bike. It's getting about time to put it back on the road. It's been sleeping since November.

And I haven't logged in here for so long, I had to get a new password!
