Calling all GT750 Aficionado's

Post by Rustygt550 »

Hi, I am considering this GT750, could all you experts out there take a look at this one & tell me if you think it's correct for the year? from a first glance i know the seat trim is missing. Thanks

It looks all there and correct from glancing at the photos, listed as a 74 and a 75 in the description, but It is a 75.
As you noted the seat trim is missing, as is the kickstarter rubber, the CCI decal is placed wrong and the Suz motor Co decals are also gone from the side covers, as are the water cooled badges on the cylinders,,,all really finicky nit picky stuff.
If the tool kit is complete and ALL ORIGINAL thats another bonus as well in the deal since those older detailed "S" kits are highly sought after.
The big plus is the 72 only style alternator cover, you can make some good money off of that and get the correct one plus some small parts out of that sale IF you choose to do so.
Its going to need some detailing and such if you plan to bring it up to a higher visual standard.
Prices in the UK do reflect the values paid over there for these bikes, but you have to factor in the shipping costs from the US for this bike too in the price.
I wonder if that's the original red factory paint on all three pieces, from the photos it looks to be so, another plus if it is.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

You know - that's an odd colour for an American '75 - looks more like a flake orange, unless it was the red and has faded considerably. And I wonder why the ad says it was registered in '74 ? Just misreading the build date info on the headstock ? Be interesting to know the frame number.

The seat trim is missing cuz the seat is a Suzuki replacement seat.. They do not come with trim.. Also the hand grips are aftermarket. If the paint is actually orange then it has been repainted.. The two colors that the US came with were the red and grey in 1975.. He probably listed it as a 74 from reading the frame neck tag.. The build date is for a 75 model.. But the exhaust pipes and engine head (lack of fan plug by the thermostat housing) are from the 75 or newer bike..

I suspect you are correct about the seat - I was curious about the colour and the striping as that was a combo offered - with those stripes - in the Japan home market, but the rest of the bike looks to be 'general export' standard (with the exception of the J alternator cover).

Good point Allen, but since we cant see under the seat it might very well be a new seat or just a replacement cover on there and the trim wasn't refitted.
The grips appear to be the sponge ones similar to the Grab-on grips, obviously a POs personal addition since many people don't like the stock grips on the Buffalos.
After looking at the photos for awhile, I still think the "sort of" red is original paint, well at least the one on the tank anyways, just faded somewhat from the years.
Suzuki did a lot of two and three tint paint colours in the late 60s and 70s, and in the pictures of the tank it looks like the red pigment has lightened/faded but the silver in it hasn't, and so now it looks lighter and has more of a silver flake cast to it.
You can see this effect somewhat on the third photo from the bottom in the files where the right rear part of the tank is reflecting the sunlight.
30 plus year old bikes do hold onto their past life secrets quite well.
