i had an electrical problem that i have been avoiding ,on account of my limited knowhow in all things sparky.
but BRP tourer helped me out and i decided to have a look .

this is the prob i think overheated /melted together wires in thr lighting switch loom.
but on route i found this god awful mess from P.O. .

why do people do this crappy dangerous bodgery.
lucky i have a spare front harness i got ages ago.
and will swop it out.
the ignition switch was hard soldered in ,not a conector in sight.and lots of different colored wires soldered together.
i am just amazed it mostly worked and didnt catch fire.

Mark that is a botch of the highest order, but I am surprised you didn't see any of it sooner. On the ignition switch sockets, when you fit the other harness, change out the small four pin connector for the larger style four pin plug design, those small stock ones tend to get corroded from their location and overheat the socket.
Also look at the junction where it meets under the tank by the coils, those four pin connectors are known to act up too and you may have to change that one as well.
As you're there try a spare male pin into each female socket aperture to confirm its got enough tension, if any are feeling slack remove them from the shell and carefully increase the folded over sides slightly for better grip.
Clean them by dipping the socket into some vinegar till the brass becomes shiny, then wash them off and blow dry. After that apply some dielectric grease.

Indeed Looks like you were lucky this time for sure - and as Allan points out, it might pay to give the rest of it a check over also. While you have the tank off checking that connector he talks about, you might want to clean the ground connections as well.

I knew there was some "non standard mods " to the wires in the headlight .
But the best mods were hidden under 2 miles off electrical tape and cable ties.
I have some more queerys and will ask later .

My goodness that's a mess....but you've found it before the bike burned to the ground.
Hopefully all will go well with your repairs and you don't get to discover any more "surprises".

Just cut out the messed up part, take it to the PO, and help him put it somewhere where it will never see daylight again!
