Painted Engine Cases?

Post by CJF »

I have seen posts in the past about people restoring their T500's and other GT suzi models saying that they painted the engine cases. In looking close at my GT500 cases, it looks like they are bare aluminum with no paint. Can anyone tell me how they came new from the factory...painted or unpainted?

I haven't had a GT500 before, but the few GT750's and GT550's I've had all exhibited aluminum color paint on the cases.

Good luck. Arne

Can't comment on the 500s but GT750 has silver painted upper case and bare lower case.

Hi CJF,

When I re-built my T500 engine I used a set of NOS cases (1400cc oil type). These were bare metal. I had them vapour blasted before assembling and they came up like they HAD been sprayed in silver paint.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking that it sould be bare aluminum like the NOS set you have. Vapor blasting does a nice job. That engine looks awesone!

Hello Chris,

I must admit I am sold on vapour blasting, the results are fanatastic. They won't stay thay way but it is a good place to start from :) . Just make sure you thoroghly flush any remaining blasting medium from the cases.

If only the rider was as pretty as the bike

Great looking bike...nice job. It looks clean enough to eat off.
