What year did they change the porting?

Post by jaybob »

On the gt550 and the gt750 I know they hotted up the factory porting at some point. Was it '74? '75?

Thanks

1975 M model was the change.

For a 750, the casting is the same before and after, so it's easy to port it to your own preference rather than Suzuki's.

TZ Thanks!!

Do you or anyone know where I can send a set of '74 550 jugs to get a mild port & polish, bore job, and some custom intake machining?

Thanks again

there are a bunch of people that their fans claim are "2 stroke gurus". One guy who seems to be getting good reviews is Scott Clough at SCR who seems to know what he's doing. Zook-e on this board also has a good reputation for porting the 500 twins and could probably do your 550 barrels.

Personally, I prefer to work out what I want using two different sets of software and then I send my barrels to Bill Tripp in Illinois who uses TSR software and we compare notes and finally agree on a set of specs that we both agree will be optimum for a particular application.

Bill recently ported a reed barrel for Suzukidave's GT750 reed motor and the quality of his work is excellent. Bill is up to his eyeballs in sled motors at the moment and knows how to make those things fly.

PM me your email address and I'll put the two of you in touch with each other if you like.

Thanks again guys for helping me with all of the newbie information. I have for many years wanted to build a fun Cafe bike and this one is going to be it. Hopefully not the last one though.
