Suzuki 2 Strokes

Does the petcock diaphragm for the GT750J have a part number for seperate purchase or is it considered part of a built up petcock? Mine is toast but I can't find a part number in my book for the diaphragm to ask the local dealer about.

Any help appreciated.

Nope the five sided unit isn't available BUT some Kawasaki bikes from the 70s used the same thing, and so some show up on fleabay. The price isn't cheap for the Kawi ones and you may actually save money buying another used GT one. The problem is it may have a bum diaphragm too but then again it may not, I've been lucky so far with the ones I bought and refurbished all the diaphragms were good.

Somewhere on one of the boards I've seen someone who came up with a solution using a pice of rubber innertube or something like that. Anyone remember this?

Filters that go on the tube and in the petcock body for main and reserve Suzuki #: 44322-31050

The Fuel strainer in bowl: Suzuki p/n 44344-31050

The 4 hole gasket: Suzuki. Part # 44376-31050

The gasket from tank to petcock: Kawasaki # 92065-054

The Diaphragm O ring: Kawasaki # 92055-044

Diaphragm is available from Kawasaki but is expensive (try to use your old one)

Thanks for the replies fellas. I did try my local Kwaka dealer and he said that the diaphragm is listed as NLA - don't you just hate those 3 little letters

Mike you will just have to locate an old petcock and hope the diaphragm is good, OR if someone on the board here has one they are willing to send you. I tried to find the material to make them but sadly it was a lost cause due to issues with amount and price of minimum order.
Its a lamination of a special rubber compound between layers of mesh membrane to a definite thickness.

It may be easier to just buy an entire new petcock. They were still available a little over a year ago and it was only $68, which was a lot cheaper than buying the ones off ebay.

Well things have taken a shift for the positive. One of my mates here in the Shakey Isles (yep, we're still getting aftershocks 3 months post the big quake ) has found a nice, serviceable diaphragm for me. So, I've spent the last day or so cleaning and polishing the petcock before putting it all back together again. Darned if the rest of the bike doesn't look a bit tatty now

So that's the carb boot and aircleaner plus petcock sorted. On to the carbs now - no doubt I'll be back with lots more questions! Thanks again for your ideas.

Ha - just as I finished typing that, we got another aftershock. Gettin a bit tired of this I can tell you.

Good for you Mike so you're on your way to a fix. I recently glass bead blasted a few old petcocks and will dust on a light met silver then clearcoat them. This looks really nice compared to the stock dull finish pewter finish; I also got a buggered bowl which the PO messed up the 10mm nut, so Ive made it into a 9mm blasted painted and cleared it.
I'll have to post up a pic of the refurbished and painted bowl a bit later today.
Those after shocks are a royal PITA aren't they.

This update I had to do to save some otherwise good bowls simply to be able to re-use them. You need to use a small square profile dressing file with one edge smooth that sits against the bowl portion while the other edge cuts the hex facing side. A good steady hand, a 9mm socket and patience will allow the botched 10mm to be made into a 9mm that works.
The socket is used to check the fit as you cut away at the 10mm, as it gets closer to size going around it, a tap of the socket will tell you where the side is that's proud on the hex that needs a bit more filing.
About 15 mins or so of careful work will get you a new (but smaller) hex shape for your repaired bowl.

And make darned sure that anyone wanting to steal your bowl will have a VERY difficult (if not impossible) task.....with the normal complement of roadside tools. Who carries a 9mm anything in his tool kit ??
