rebuild parts?

Post by 87m6chris »

Hi, I'm looking around for parts to rebuild a 75/T500, ebay seems to have a lot of stuff but the prices, Whoa.
I also found this place Cycle Parts Nation that seems to have OEM Suzuki parts at great prices.
Anyone ever use these guys? Is Suzuki USA still carrying these parts?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, if you have the part number(s) of the item(s) you need, ALWAYS
check with your local Suzi dealer FIRST. A lot of guys make a good living selling on fleabay by buying parts that are SUPPOSEDLY no longer available from the manufacturer and then reselling them to schmucks who are too ignorant/lazy/dumb to pick up the phone and call their local dealer. A fool and his money, etc etc. :D

I was told by the parts guy at my local Suzuki dealer that nothing was available here in Canada
an that I would have to order from the states, and so my question as to Suzuki USA.
Want to find out if this parts guy is right or just lazy.

chris,
as rick said pull the numbers from an online fiche and phone it in. i've had good luck at my local dealer in london.
they have to retrieve the # off a fiche then plug the number into the system. he's just lazy.

Dennis you're absolutely correct.
Chris, NEVER mention what the stuff is for when you're talking to parts guys. Dennis (advant63) described the whole scenario perfectly......
and, besides, why confuse the parts schmoe by asking for stuff for a bike that was built LONNNGGGG before he was born???
Just give him the numbers, let him plug them in his computer and see what pops up. Most of the time you'll be amazed to hear what's still available. You may not like the price(s)....but at least the stuff CAN be had brand new......without the fleabay seller's outrageous shipping charges!!! What's not to like!!??!!

Guys, walked into the Suzuki dealership this morning and handed my list of 20 things to the same parts guy that 4 days ago told me "nothins available for that bike anymore".
There was only parts numbers on the page, he rolled eyes and went and looked them up.
He came back 10 min. later and said "yeah, I can get all of this, some of it is back ordered
but I can have it all within a couple of weeks".

So, thank you very much.
Now comes the fun part, stripping, cleaning, painting, re-chroming. I'm not going to do
a 100% show room floor kind of resto, just a clean smarting looking and reliable weekend bike.
Thanks,
Chris

I've never understood this attitude by the parts guys. I've even had them tell me "Suzuki never made that bike" before. It's fun to get them to walk outside and look at the non-existent motorcycle!

So far I've resisted the evil internal urge to ask the owner how much he's losing in parts sales annually from lazy parts counter guys.

These days I find it easier to look up the parts numbers on-line at someplace like Temecula motorsports and then order them on-line from a discount parts seller like Ron Ayers, ridenow, powersportpros, etc...

I once had a parts guy tell me that the 76 GT550 did not come with Kukasan(sp?) points according to his microfiche. I then took him outside, took the side cover off, and showed him a set.

I always check this site http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and if it's still for sale in the USA it’s mostly still available in the Netherlands by the Suzuki dealer
