Source for new T500 Conrods ?????

Post by Zunspec4 »

Hi all,

Whilst talking to the chap in my local M/C store about parts for my Speed Twin he gave me a business card of one his suppliers so I could peruse their web site. Not much for Triumph 500s but I also checked out the conrods kits they sold and noticed they list one for the TS250ER. I have been told that the TS250 conrod is also suitable for T500, is this true ?.
Open the link and click on "High Level Picture Book" on the left side of the web page. Open the Picture Book .pdf and go to page 46.

They only sell to the trade but that should not be too much of a problem.

The 500 T connnecting rod is 136mm, for the moment, we have only 4 solutions,
_shorter con rod (jet sky or 750 GT, less about 4mm), difficult for many person to put off those mm on the cranckcase or cylinder.
_longer con rod I have (more than 1.5mm).
_used and wrong con rod ...
_old stock of old new origin con rod .... very few one today
I think it 's easier to put a longer one but the problem is that this solution is a little expensive if you compare at an origin one.
I hope in one year have a 136mm con rod ...

Hi Pedro,

Wishful thinking on my part :) .

I have a set of NOS rods stashed away for a rainy day so they are not something I need at the moment but for a minute I thought I had found an alternative. Good luck with your own endeavours on the conrod front.

Pedro, I seem to recall that Rods for say teh Manx and any Villiers rods typically have a hardened "Sleeve" that could be pressed out and replaced if necessary. Is it possible to do that with 500 rods?

750 are 135mm are they not? would that work with 1mm off the barrels? port timing would be slightly different but might be close enough.

Yes, it is possible, but the big problem is not at the head (down) but at the foot.
We can do nothing at the foot (up), there is not enough iron to do anything.
The T 500 con rod is as a jet ski con rod, very big head, small rod and small foot. Today a motobike con rod have a normal dead, a big rod and a big foot.
Refurbing is not easier ... I think it must exist a solution like nikasil traitement but it goes only on alloy, some traitement goes also on iron (for cylinders), but there is too much efforts on the foot rod and the tests are surely very hard and expensive to do.
