Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hey guys, I have my frame ready to go to the coated but was wondering how I remove the rubber and sleeve from the rear exhaust bracket?

Is it something Ill have to just burn out and replace? I tried pushing it out with a clamp but it just wouldnt pop out.

You would be better off to fix a flat washer of correct size on each side of it and bolt it together to cover the bushings open facing sides.
They have to be pressed out and back in so if yours are decent its best to leave them in. Suzuki still sell them but they are not that easy to remove as you've found out.

+1 Just leave them in place and mask them off with washers and a bolt as stated above. The trip through the oven will not harm them

+2 I also just left them in and haven't noticed any problems.

Well, I took frame in today and they wouldnt let me do the washer capped version. Said it would melt and make a mess. So I guess Ill have to try and push them out.

That is what my powder guy said too. I put a hacksaw blade through the bush and sawed through the inner wall, rubber and outer wall. Didn't take long at all.

No. They won't melt. If he is not a believer, have him run it through the oven once to see before he coats it. If he still insists you remove them -- good luck!! They are a bear to get out and even harder to put new ones in. I snapped off a couple of grade 8 bolts, turned stacks of washers into funnels and after 2 days never got them fully home. Looking back, I should have slit the outer sleeve nearly through so it had some room to collapse.
Do some measuring of the bores on the bike with a snap gage and mic the diameter of the new bushing. If it is more than .001 press, you are going to have real problems installing them. Its a relatively small hole and .001 is plenty of press for sonething so small. You do have 3 options though. 1. You can hone the bores on the bike with a brake cylinder hone. 2. If there is a machine shop around with some centerless grinders, you can get them ground down. 3. Slit the outer sleeve through or nearly through wirh a hack saw to give it room to collapse. I never did mic mine but they were at least .005 too big for the hole.

Having the bushing fitting so tightly is overkill and putting one in can be a PITA. After calculating the interference fit values you can skim a bit off of the new bushings OD and also ream the hole in the frame to 'clean it' just enough which helps the new bushing press home a lot easier.
I still don't see why your coater wants them out, they are not going to be a problem.

Do I need to worry about the center bushing in the swing arm? Or is that impossible to remove anyways.

The trick to pulling new bushes in is:

1 - Clean up the bores slightly with a sanpaper drum on a Dremmel rotary tool.
2 - Grease the bush
3 - Use a socket rather than washers to pull the bush into place. I used a 3' length of allthread to make sure I pulled them in straight and they lid in without any drama. A small can of elbow grease perhaps, but no drama.
