Not to start another dreaded oil thread, but I'm looking for some opinions on what's the best oil / grease to use on the points cam. Do you just oil the felts or is there grease involved also? Mine's dry right now and I want to correct the situation before the points rubbing blocks go bye bye.

I used to use engine oil to soak the felt, but there may be a better solution.

I've always used ATF but any oil with some antiwear in its additive package will work. I also wash my felt out in solvent and then dry it every spring to get rid of any grunge and decayed oil before I lube it with the ATF.
Use a little heavier lube rather than a lighter one, especially if you do lotsa miles and live in a warm/hot climate. The heavier lube will resist runoff and "flinging" from the cam so that your contact surfaces don't get "oiled" accidentally.

I use a spot of gearbox oil on the felt, and put a trace of grease on the fibre heel of each breaker using the edge of a business card, every 3 months or so (depending on how often I'm riding).
