I got this from a friend who told me on the phone it would fit a GT550 (it's pretty new but with minor scratching and it's been sitting awhile.) It's not from a 550 but maybe a GT750 or ?? I'd appreciate any help, ideas, etc.

That looks like the outer clutch cover from a late 70s GS400 twin, its definitely not a GT cover.

I vote with Allan on this one, Frank. Definitely NOT a GT part, for sure.

Yes definately GS twin. Have a look at my '03 GS500, the basic castings have not changed much over the decades.

Yes, I believe the first GS400 two valve engine was produced for the 1977 model year, IIRC. Now THAT'S a long run, IMO. I think Suzuki has got their money's worth from the tooling and molds for that engine......

Rick weren't a lot of the parts for those GS500 bikes being made in Spain at one time? I seem to recall such a thing a while back.

My GS500 was built in Spain, so was my partners '01 SR250 Yammy.

I looked at some pics on ebay for the GS500 and it sure looks like that. The GS400's had an extra hole for the kickstart shaft (?). Thanks fellas.

Yep, the later 500's were/are built in Spain, but......I'm not so sure that the boys in Hamamatsu would trust anyone else to build the engines. All the rest of the bits, including the carbs IIRC, are Spanish items but I'm not so sure about the engine assembly. That's usually the last thing that the Japanese manufacturers trust to non-Japanese sources. Someone with a Spanish-built 500 needs to look closely at the engine castings and covers to see if they still show a Made In Japan logo on them.

Good point Rick, unfortunately I don't have mine anymore so I can't check.

Looks like an early to mid 80's GS450 cover to me. May also fit GS300. (and GS500).
