Suzuki 2 Strokes

Any recommendations on where to find an oil seal for a GT380? I've noticed a slow leak from the shift lever; I'm assuming the seal is missing or bad. I haven't felt ambitious enough to pull it apart to confirm, but seems like that would be the cause.

I usually get parts from Andersons Vintage Suzuki, but they seem to be shut down for the time being. Any recommendations?

That seal is a common enough item, that it should still be available at any Suzuki dealer, if that'ds the problem. Pull the cover off, and make sure that it's not the sprocket shaft seal. It would leak from the same general area. Cheers.

Could be the shift position indicator as well. The old plastic ones had a tendency to crack and leak ---- could just be loose.

Clearly the wrong side of the pond for you, but I just had to pass on the chuckle I had when I opened this page earlier today ....

It varies. Sometimes it's just a few drops after a ride, but I can usually see spots on the ground below the bike, not just on the pipes. Last weekend, after a longer than usual ride, when I parked it it definitely pooled on the ground under the bike... not like it emptied out, but maybe like a third of a shot glass, maybe a little more. After that I started parking it on the center stand to see if that would make a difference, and so far no drips when the bike is parked upright. I left the bike on the side stand last night, but haven't checked to see what the drippage situation is today.

I'm still playing newb-catch-up on identifying these little parts in that area. How complicated is the fix if it's an issue with the gear indicator? Or the sprocket shaft seal? Would those issues require more tear down than the shift lever seal? Do those exploded parts views show these parts well enough for me to identify them?

The sprocket shaft needs an engine strip to do it right, I think ... my 2 cents is to try and monitor the extent of the leak, and if it just shot-glass levels, leave it. It's highly unlikely to leak when it's running, it'll wait 'til it pools when the engine's stopped.

eithr. Remove the left foot peg. Remove the shift lever bolt and pull the lever off. Remove the screws that hold the sprocket cover on. It will be nasty in there. Thoroughly clean the area with solvent, carb cleaner or pressure washer if you have one. Reassemble everything and take it out for your usual spin. When you get home, leave the bike on the side stand and pull the cover again. You should be easily be able to tell where the oil is leaking from.
Both seals are still available from Suzuki. Sprocket shaft seal is part no. 09283-25002. Shifter shaft seal is part no. 09285-12006. The gear position indicator switch is obsolete. I have one you are welcomme to if yours is cracked or broken.
