Clutch rod seal

Post by Coyote »

I have some ooze and I think it's coming from here. It's either this or the gear indicator switch. I have a new seal on hand. Do I need to drain the tranny to repace it? Can I safely pull the rod out and then re insert after replacing the seal or are things going to come apart inside?

push rod

Post by gyrocfi »

I believe the seal is above where the oil level sets so removeing the seal for replacement should be no problem. AS LONG as the bike is on the CENTER STAND!!

The Push rod is two pieces and the one on the drive side can be removed and reinstalled with NO problems. Just be sure to remember which end goes inside FIRST. one side is rounded.

I know this because I have been working in that area with a bad needle bearing that ate up my countershat!!!! You might want to check to see if the bearing is going that might be what caused the seal to wear our. YOu should be able to tell by looking at the outer shifter push rod. I think If you see worry/wear marks on the rod it could indicate the bearing is failing/? Could be? You dont want them to go bad it WiLL tear up you ocuntershaft bearing race.

Im a very very basic home rebuilder so DONT take my word as gosple? Wait for a few others to chime in for more input? Dofin

I just want to be sure that #17 doesn't fall off somewhere when I pull out #18. I remember #17 was a nice fit when I was working the clutch side and replacing the starter gear and clutch, but I just got to thinking - if there is only a single support for 17 that the right end may fall when I pull 18.

The two piece clutch rod fits INSIDE the shaft so it cant go anywhere unless you remove the clutch centre or pull it out from the left side with a magnet.
So put the bike on the centre stand and remove the rod from that side remove and replace the seal with no issues.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

So what's THIS?? I popped out the seal, only to be faced by a second seal. It is similar to the outer seal, but not exactly the same. I can't find this seal in any of the fiches and they all say 1 required. The smaller seal shown in the first post goes in the clutch actuation assembly on the left cover.
I don't know what to do. I guess I'll just replace the outer and go on. The seal was loose and probably was the leaker anyway.

I think what your seeing is someone else's attempt in the past to fix the same problem you are now experiencing!
when I pulled that seal on my T200 I too found that it had been doubled up!
I pulled the extra one as well and put it back together as the fiche showed, I've had no problems since.
so either double up the seals as someone else has or put it back as it's supposed to be.

As you have both noticed someone has used two seals, not being able to get the first one out the ysimply pushed another one in front of it.
Check the clutch rod for any damage to its surface since marks or scores will damage the new seal too. Simply clean it up AND turn it around for a new section to be in the seals contact area
