Front blinkers

Post by robert campbell »

My 1975 GT-750M came with a vetter fairing on it. Also included were a complete set of front blinker housings. Well it appears that they are GT-500 blinkers. Does anyone have a picture of what I should have?

Better yet does anyone have a set they want to sell? Or a thought of where to get a set? They seem to not be availble through Suzuki anymore.

This ebay seller has repros for front and rear and they are excellent copies of the originals. Way cheaper in price too for the pair than if Suzuki had originals.

Bike looks very clean and decent Rob, now i see the left side cover off, might I suggest you consider one of the voltage regulators from Oregon M/cycle.
Tony is first rate at sorting out your isses and you wont be dissapointed in how this electronic unit out performes the old style mechanical one on the bike.

Other than the bottom of the engine and the pipes, I have not even cleaned this bike!! She is not a museum piece, but I do not want one! I want to ride! The Gray paint on it was very nice, but during my sealing process a large chunk of paint fell off. Paint was great, but whoever did it failed to even sand the orginal paint for good adhesion. Red will look better anyway!!

Think I may paint the plastic shroud around the radiator to match the tank? Anyone done that? Saw it on a bike on fleabay and it looked kinda cool, but the bike was very custom.

Looking for the chrome crash bar that goes around the radiator. Thoughts? Not available through Suzuki.

Is the rear rack a Suzuki piece? I have seen all sorts of styles of rear racks.

Flushed the engine cooling system a second time and it gave me an excuse to warm it up for 30 minutes or so.

Rode it around the local roads as you see it in the pic. Got on the front of the seat and nailed it in first gear. At 5,000 RPM it really hit the pipe until 7,000 RPM! Ran out of room and was already approaching 50 mph!!

Thanks for the voltage regulator idea. I will go for it!

Want to go to electronic ignition. Have seen a couple older threads. What is the best way these days?

Boy, I am full of questions. Let me have it! I do not offend easily! Kinda a custom driver guy, more than a stock guy. I have two early Mustangs that are far from stock! No trailer queens for Rob.

Rob all the pics i've seen with the radiator guard painted in another colour tends to draw your eye more to it since its fluted and quite big.
However you can try it in the red and see how it looks as its your bike.
Crash bars are NLA and so you will have to get a used one off of ebay and possibly have it re-chromed.
Expect to pay more for better and straighter ones obviously, anywhere from $50.00 to upwards of $100.00 and higher for really good ones are the present going rates.
That rear rack is not a Suzuki piece but after market, if you carry a lot of items you will need it as the OEM ones are a bit smaller but i like their design and shape better.
Newtronics are great units as are the Accent ones from Germany, and while Accent are an all in one circuit board with no parts outside the left engine points cover, Newtronics has the external 'black box' you mount elsewhere.
You should also consider the tapered roller bearing headset conversion as well, over the old balls and cups unit, thats if it hasnt been upgraded already.
If you need any gauge restoration work done i do that as a service, specializing in the GT750 model gauges. (sales pitch included free)

Thanks for the info!!

I like the Suzuki rack better myself. This had a chrome sissy bar on it and looks clunky to me.

The guages are very nice but there seems to be a "coating" on the inside of the clear lens in spots that appears like armor all on glass? Very slight haze but not really. Thought it was on the outside and used some plastic polish and it did not come off. almost imposible to see unless you get it inside and at the correct angle.

The original racks do show up on ebay and sell for about $150.00 plus, there was a decent one on there a while back but it didnt sell, so it may show up again if you do a search.
What you are seeing on the gauge glass lenses is an oil film haze, it comes from the sun heating the insides of the gauges, and over time the lube vapors evaporate up and stick to the glass. Its actually baked on to the inside and not just easily wiped off.
Most of the gauges after 30 plus years have fading of some degree to the faces, especially the redline segments and other issues. The old lube the factory used should be renewed to more modern types that dont cause the haze issue.

As Allan says, nope, that's an aftermarket rack, BUT.....it looks like a very nice example with a decent cargo capacity. Perfect for the 3-8 day camping tour of BC in August.....so don't toss/sell it and don't get rid of the sissy bar either. With the bar in place you'll be able to carry a goodly amount of stuff without any saddlebags needed.
