My other 3cyl Suzuki

Post by Zook-e »

Here is a pic of my other 3 Cylinder Suzuki 998cc but a four stroke. Still loads of fun to drive and should have new paint on this summer. Ford Perfromance Red.

Just put on a set of 17" wheels. My own little DUB Machine.

We had them in the 3 cyl 1000cc called the Swift and the 4 cyl 1300cc DOHC fuel injected model called the Swift GTi.
The 1300 version was deadly, literally, way too much power for that bodyshell design. Many had short lives, including the drivers who sustained injuries or death from crashes in the GTi model.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Didn't the original version of the Swift come with a two stroke twin (?) motor at least in Japan?

Or am I confusing it with a similar small car from a different manufacturer?

Richard the Swift model originated from the Forsa which was also known as the SA310 (1000cc) or SA413 (1300) in parts of the world.
Before these models came around there was the SC100, CXG or Cervo, again a name change depending on which part of the world it was sold, basically a 1000cc rear engined coupe.
Before either of these models there was the Fronte/550 custom' or 'bubble' as they were known around here on the island.
When Suzuki automobiles were first introduced here to the island in the early 1970s all the vehicles brought in had the 550cc 3 cyl water cooled two stroke engines. This was an all new version of the previous 360cc twin cylinder aircooled two stroke engine used in the 60s.
So going back to your question originally, the Front is probably what you are thinking of in the 1960s, an aircooled 360cc two stroke rear engined model.

Allan,

Thanks for all that info, but that wasn't what I was thinking of. Must have come from a different manufacturer and I was thinking 80's or 90's.

No worries. thanks for that cute picture though.

Once again, Allen has proven to have the LARGEST mountain of (useless If you were to ask any of our wives) Useful information on the board.

Saab had a nice 3cyl 2 stroker too, the 93 i think.

Just got new feet on the rims. Lots more curve on the sidewall so no scrubbing in hard corners. Installed a strut brace on the front. The actual contact patch on these tires is less than the used ones on the rims that I had adjusted the suspension on.

Everything looks like it is going to work out great and now with the smaller contact patch, a slight gain in mileage should come about.

Taking it in tomorrow to get the front end aligned with cam adjustment bolts installed as well.

I bet you are thinking of a Subaru. It looked like a VW beetle, with suicide doors. Air cooled 2-stroke oil injected rear engine. Un-officially imported to the US, so i was not supported by the Subaru dealerships.
