Talking about time serts

I'm looking for a particular type to fix a problem i have on a T500 cylinder. The PO decided to put in a larger bolt after they stripped some of the 8mm ones out, the problem is a 8mm helicoil cutting tap is just a bit too small now so it needs to go to a timesert or similar to get into the 'meat' of the surrounding aluminum.
I'd like to use at least a 20mm long 'sert' for best thread holding security but dont see any available.

Try this guy - its where I bought my Big SERT items from. If you email him. he'll tell what's available. 8)

Allan, I have a large assortment of Time-Serts and just checked my cabinet. I have both the standard 12mm and 14mm lengths. I think the 14mm was the longest I could get.

Gordon

Just heard about "Time-Serts" this morning in the thread above this one. Pays to pay attention and read a bit. Had heard of the helicoil but never tried them. Sounds like these are the way to go?? Sorry for butting in Allan.

Depending on the thread size, you can get up to a 25mm depth.

Nothing wrong with heli-coils - they work fine in almost all cases and are cheap. I use the Big Serts for where the bolt hole has been taken to the next size up and I want to get it back to original size. 8)

Thanks for all the input guys,I have never had an issue with helicoils and so to me they are proven to work well in most cases.
In this one however its not going to work as i need to go a bit bigger into the surrounding material to reach it since the PO bored the hole a bit bigger than a 9mm but still under a 10mm.
I was hoping for some 20mm long ones so they could have good thread contact for the special 8mm bolt used on the head but i see thats not possible so I may have to use the next shortest ones.

** Update i found a 8x1.25 time sert in a 20mm length so thats as good as it gets** so i'll place an order for some... Thanks again everyone for you responses.
