Suzuki 2 Strokes

i am in the process if rebuilding my 73 buffalo engine and is there a good point were to put the motor back in the frame and carry on the assembly.
or do you have to reassemble the whole thing then put it back.

I'm assuming he chamfered the ports after the rebore ? I usually assemble the whole thing, make sure everything turns over OK and shifts correctly once buttoned up and then get someone to help me lift it into the frame.

There are three ways that are available to me.

! -Suzukidave method. Build the motor, lay it on its side, lay frame over motor. Bolt in place. Pick up farm and motor assembly and continue.

2 Oldjapanese bikes approach - get a buddy

Those two methods are intelligent and well thought out.

Then there's my method - partially build the motor as far as the barrels on but no side covers etc and the struggle to get it in on your own. It seems like it's too big or too heavy to go in, but it will go if you have a good back and knees.

Ahhhh.... We both use the exact same method! Have you had two hernia operations like me too????

In the Caribbean we call it getting goatees. Ask Allan what that is. He can probably explain it a little bit more delicately than I can.

I'm not looking for extra work or physical injury to ANY region, so i'd build up most of it and lay it on its side then lift the frame over it and catch the bolts up.
The best idea yet is Daves since these old engines are super heavy, "theres hidden lead in them their things"

In my case, I got an old tire and a small carpet. Stand the engine on end inside the tire on the carpet. Lift frame over motor, align and push in mounting bolts. Works pretty good but it's still a 2 man job.
For what it's worth, I weighed my fully assembled motor on a standard bathroom scale. 161 pounds
Another trick was moving the motor about easily. A couple 3 foot lengths of 3/8" pipe slipped through the upper mounting lugs (bushings removed) made it easy to move around. Again, a 2 ma.n job.

After doing it this way a couple of times by myself i can say for sure if the frame is stripped down putting it on the engine is the way to go to keep from chipping paint off the frame .

I didnt have any pictures of the stock GT frame but figured these would get the point across . That day was hotter than blue blazes , the towel i kept wet just to try and stay cool a little .

i think i will try and get two buddys to lift it complete,
while i put the nuts and bolts in place .
many beers will give there lives in this process.
but it will be worth it.

One thing, leave the lower coolant manifold off till the engine is in the frame. It just gets in the way. when you manhandle the motor between the rails. BTW, studs are in tomorrows mail. Cheers.
