I got my crank back from Bill Bune and I'm ready to put it in I'm little confused about the c-ring, does the protruding side of the c-ring face away from the seal or does the prutruding side face the seal?
what else do I need to know beside sealing around the crank ,bypass, #13 bolt before I close it up, I'm using hylomar as my sealer do I need to put a sealer around the black plug on the left side of the transmission bearing.

Smokin,

It's getting late, but which C ring are we talking about? Do you have a pre- 74 crank with the half moon clip? If so, the new seal should replace that ring. new style seals have a half ring of steel in the seal itself making teh old retainer redundant.

That bolt #13 is sealed from the outside. use a copper washer under the nut and maybe a light smear both sides with gasket goo.

I do seal the black plug with Three-Bond along with the rest of the case halves. I don't know if it's needed, but I do it anyway.

It's a 72 gt 750 and I have the older seals on the crank, the c-ring is the one that's between the prinary gear and the right crank rod seal, the c-ring or half moon clip has an indentation that protruds out in a c-shape, which way does the protruding side of the ring face the gear side or does it face the seal.

Thank smokin

That makes sense. Well no it doesn't, but I understand the question.

I suspect that that you have one of the few bikes on the planet with that configuration. The rest of us upgraded to the later seals which have less problems.

AFAIK, the clip has the bulge away from the seal so that the seal can fit hard up against the clip. That's how it appears in the parts book.

If that were mine, I'd send it back to BB and get a later seal fitted, but you ain't me I guess. You'll probably be fine. It's not like ALL pre-change cranks had a problem.

When I ordered the seals from PM thats what he sent me I didn't know about the new seals until after the fact and it would cost even more to send it back, I didn't have a problem with the old seal and it had 33,000 on odom, , I'm not planing on beating the crap out of it so hopefully it will last a while. Thanks for the help.

PM pulled the same stunt on me with those seals. He sent me two sets of the early ones. They should never have been out there, as the factory officially corrected the situation with new seals and a service bulletin, in May 1975. I mentioned this to him, and he played dum to the fact. " A Suzuki parts expert" That P!!!!d me off. :x . I hate to say it, but you probably got the ones I sent back to him. I never got refunded either. Those seals pre-date 1975, so don't expect a long life cycle from them.
The early ones had a primary, and a secondary sized seal lip, and the updated ones had two primary seal lips for more pressure and oil control. I'm pretty sure they changed the composition of the rubber as well. My original waterbuffalo in 1972, had less than 1000 miles on the clock when the seal failed, and was fixed on warranty, no questions asked. They already knew they had a problem by mid 72. I'd put money on the fact that your bike had already been done once on warranty, back in the day, hence the mileage. Not positive, but it makes sense. Anyway, good luck. Cheers.

I wish I had known about this earlier shipping alone was $120 around trip, I'll call Bill up and see what he can do for me. I'm been finding out about PM as time goes by sent me a head gasket that had new paper glued on one side having to keep sending things back getting old, but anyway I look into fixing that seal if it won't cost me to much. Thanks

That was in Service Bulletin GT-6, here's a link to page 7.

I talked to bill bune and he said he hasn't seen alot of problems with the old seals, said he would help me out if I sent it back but it still would end up costing alot so I'm going to use them and hopefully they will last for a while.
