Just took the Titan away for a big weekend ride with our classic jappa group. After about 40 mins of riding, the revs would not shut off when I closed the throttle and then the revs began heading into the stratosphere .

Thankfully, I had knowledgeable fellow riders who quickly isolated the problem to the left carb. Turns out that the locating/guide pin (that the slide moves up and down on) had worked its way out towards the outside of the carb. As a result, there was nothing to keep the slide in place and she moved, twisted and did a little dance whenever I tried to accelerate.

With a bit of the old Burt Munro spirit, we pulled a farmer's fence apart and used a wire nail to bang the pin back thru the carb body After that, things stayed in place - tho I need to find a more permanent solution to make sure it doesn't slip out again. (? a bit of glue on the outside)

When we caught up with the group, I spoke with the other T500 rider who said the exact same thing happened to him about two months ago. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep .. its happened to me but with a 73 GT750

Also happened to me on T500s and my GT750s with 72/73 carbs.

Mike if you push the pin back in so its end doesnt rub on the slides inner back groove to bind it, you will see it sits just a little inside the carb body casting. Once its in this position use a very fine punch to place a little stake on the edge of the carbs body next to the hole so it flares the hole inwards ever so slightly.
This then stops the pin from working its way out again, then you can of course also remove the carb lay it on its side and place a neat blob of JB weld over that part of the casting so it looks like a smooth grey button when it cures.
Its a common problem with age since the carbs are vibrating and the slides are always hitting on the pin, so after about 30 plus years or so the fit of the pin gets somewhat free in the body.
