Weird, or not...

Can anyone else confirm if their GT fork sliders have an extra mounting 'lug' on the rear near the bottom, adjacent to where the rear stay bolts on?
Like this -
Is it unusual? I can't think what it might be for.
I ask because I've been looking at pics of other GT's, and I can't seem to spot any...
Cheers

Thats interesting as now that makes the chromed top lower legs on the Buffalo different to the ones on the first RE5s.
Both share the same chrome top caps and overall design yet theres no extra ear on the RE left fork leg.
The RE still had the fork stay ears at the base of each leg but were not used for them, they did however use the left rear facing one to mount the speedo cable stay.

Ok, so this is a '74 only thing?
This is kind of interesting because it means the bike I bought is a really bona-fide L.
The 'L' list of unique features would be something like this:
Lug on forks,
Saddle-type front mudguard stays,
Absence of stamping on inner mufflers,
Straight(er) kick-start lever,
'Suzuki GT' logo on seat,
Crossed 'Q' on 'Water Cooled' decals,
Raised markings on temp gauge,
Locating lug for banjo on front brake calipers,
RH airbox cover secured internally,
Absence of vacuum (balancing) ports on carbs,
Square-edged holes in brake discs,
8mm mirror threads...
Any others I haven't thought of?
Cheers

Paul the switch gear had a few changes over the years, but ive only ever seen 10mm holes for the mirrors by the time of the 74 models. Ive also seen some of the crossed Q emblems on some 75 cylinders as well. I believe there was an issue with the master cylinder cover design on 74s.
Does your rear brake plate carry a wear limit cast into it and the line on the pivot shaft??

This is getting weird. I have two sets of forks that I took off 74's. Both have the L only chrome tops but neither has that extra lug.
They came with different disks. One had old square slots and one had later oval slots.
Both had saddle type front fender stay attachment where my 76 did not.
As far as I can see from the pictures, both 74s appear to have the retaining lug for the brake hoses.
Don Ruff and I bought a pair of 74s, one of which is now Gordon's (Ilbikes) and it is identical to mine as far as I can see. Same later style disks and saddles etc and no extra lugs.
So the plot thickens.

Hmmm.... I'll check today. I reckon I have both designs in the collection.
I
think the one on the bike has a decal (rather than a casting) and a line on the pivot shaft.
My LH switch-block has a sliding indicator switch and no 'pass' button. I have a couple of RH blocks but I'm not sure now which one was on the bike originally - I think it's the one
without lettering?
The crossed Q barrel decals did carry through the into the M's, I think it was just a batch of decals that ran out before the A's.
I have a couple of M/C cover designs. The one I'm using on the bike is anodized gray aluminium, but I have a couple of black rubber ones as well.
I'm using 10mm mirrors (because they're possibly a bit more robust), but when I first got the bike it definitely had 8mm mounts.
The L's were the first model with 'Water Cooled' on the barrel, but porting was the same as the previous J and K. The 'revised' porting appeared from the M's onward along with higher gearing and non-crossover, tighter bend header pipes.
I love a thicker plot...
