Titan has awoken from 35 year sleep

Got my Titan running for the first time this morning. On the first start I held the oil pump in the full open position. After about 2 minutes two of the lines filled up with oil. The other two lines do not have oil in them. Is this a bad union bolt or does two of the lines use less oil and therefore take longer to fill up? Scared to drive it until I figure this one out.
Thanks,
Pat

Well finally after about 10 minutes I now have oil in all four lines. One line still has a bubble but I guess it work it self out. I put a gallon of premix in I feel I should be okay to go straight gas after the last bubble disappears. First ride of a Titan felt good. ///Pat

Whit, good to see a 2-stroker in my neck of the woods. I grew up in Garland (many, many year ago) and now live in Lavon. Maybe by the time it gets cool, we can go for a ride. I am about to have shoulder surgery and will be out of comission for a few months.

Oh, and we'd like to see some pics of the bike.

Glad to hear it!! Watch those lines for a while; if the bubble doesn't dissappear, you have an air leak.

It ran excellent until yesterday afternoon. Was going up a hill and all of sudden it started to miss. Crept back home and found right cylinder was not firing. Today I swapped the plugs around and the problem moved to the left cylinder. Will buy a new set tomorrow.

Couple of things that have happened that are a little strange. First day I got it running and it ran like it just came off the showroom floor. Put about 50 miles on it. That night went to ride and as soon as I turned the headlight on it would kill the engine. Had to get up about 20mph before I could turn the light on. This battery is new. Anyway I re-charge the battery
and then with engine off it showed about 13V. At 2500 rpms it showed about 15-16V. Engine no longer cuts off when I turn the lights on. Whatever the problem it seemed to have disappeared.

Also the tach works as it should except when I put it in first gear it drops to zero (almost as if the engine is off). Once I let the clutch out and start moving it works like it should. Works great in neutral. Just takes a nap in first with the clutch in. That is the strangest thing I have ever seen.

Now I just need to recover the seat and get it painted.

Thanks everyone for your help over the past 6 months.

Special thanks to Allan. The guy knows more about Suzuki's then anyone I have ever met.

Pat, the tach does not work with the clutch pulled in, that is normal. It is the way the tach gear is driven and its designed that way. I think the oil pump does not work with the clutch in either, but I may be mistaken on that one.

Were yo still runing premix when you fouled a plug? If so it was probably the double dose of oil that was the cause. Especially if it was a heavy mix (20 - 1).

The tach and oil pump don't work with the clutch lever in.

Also, premix doesn't work on the Suzukis with oil injection pumps - there's crank swipers that keep the oil from reaching the crank bearings.

And, T500s are poor runners if the battery gets low - usually the right cylinder stops firing correctly.... Plus keep in mind the charging system is weak at it best. If you change out the 25/35 watt headlight for a 45/55 it usually starts draining the battery faster than the system can recharge it. If you plan on doing any night time riding on a T500 you can get a bi-xenon (hi/low) HID light conversion kit off of Ebay for a car for less than $100 and rig that into the T500 headlight. It only consumes 30 watts and throws a whole lot more light.....

Or you can get the alternator rewound for about $185 to give off more volts as well.....

Put a timing light on it today and new plugs. Runs great. Tonight the headlight problem came back. Started the engine and turned on the lights and the engine quit. After I started riding I turned on my light and it blew. I had already blown the low beam so now I am in the dark. Oh well no riding after dark for a while until I can get this straightened out.

Pat was that a new bulb you had in the H.L unit ??? if not try a new one. You may need to look at the charging output again if this situation continues, also i'd suggest you put an LED bulb in the tail lamp.

The headlight is probaly the original bulb. Will go with LED in rear as you suggested. My horn has now stopped working. It was working ok yesterday. Looks like I have gremlins. ///Pat

Whit.
On your earlier posting, you mentioned you were reading 13 volts at the battery, and 15-16 volts at 2500 rpm. That is too much charging, should be 14to 14.5 max!! that could explain your headlight blowing. Check the regulator. If it is a mechanical one like the triples, you may be able to correct that with a simple adjustment. Due diligence will get your bike running just great. Cheers.
