t200 invader oil pump refurb

Post by dollydog »

the oil pump on my mate's invader seems knackered to me. filled the oil lines, bled the oil pump on fast tickover with the pump arm wide open. still getting bubbles after 5 minutes. question is would the refurb kit - which looks like a set of 'o' rings - cure it? second question is: has anybody on here actually done it and is it easy? the t20 oil pump uses the same kit, so if anybody has done the refurb on a super 6 then your help would be much appreciated :D
cheers, dd.

nearly 4000 members and nobody has ever changed the seals in a t200 or t20 oil pump? hmm, never mind, tomorrow i'm going for it and replacing all 6 bits that came with the kit. £30 for a washer and 5 'o' rings seems a bit extortionate to me, but thankfully i'm not paying for them, just fitting them. just hope i don't fk it up :D

Hi,

Yes, I did my T20 pump a few years back. Its hard to recall but I remember it was fairly straightforward. Except that there is one component that is reverse thread so watch for that  The instructions were clear and it seemed to go well. The main input shaft seal must be your likely culprit. Interestingly, the pump design is very similar to the Pilgim pumps fitted to 1920's motorcycles.

Good luck,

Keith

A forum member sells T20/T200 & T250/GT250/T350/T500/GT500 oil pump kits on Ebay to the US & Canada:

Someone else is selling the T20/T200 oil pump kits on UK eBay to the UK:

Have no experience with the the T20/T200.
The T250/GT250/T350/T500/GT500 has a small bolt used for priming -- it's left hand thread.

thanks keith, the reverse thread bolt is also on gt250 oil pumps, which i usually do, so i know that one :D the last link that jabcb put on is the seal kit i've got. stupid price for what it is, but as i said i'm not paying for it [when he gives me my money back]. after looking at the kit this morning, although they aren't full instructions, there's a printout of what goes where, so that will help. the bloke i'm doing them for wants a few new bits for his carbs, so he's going to whip the carbs off and the oil pump, then bring them over to me - so i can do them at my leisure. bonus :D
cheers, dd.
p.s. how hard can it be to fit a little washer and 5 'o' rings?

the answer to my p.s. was pretty damned easy :D the only fairly difficult one was the input driveshaft seal and that was a s.o.b. to get out. after half an hour of messing about i finally shifted it and replaced it with the new one. one thing i noticed was the left hand thread bolt had an aluminium sealing washer on it AND a thick nylon washer. all the end of the plunger guide was all worn and looked like crap, so i took one out of my spare gt250 oilpumps and fitted that. now all good and ready to be fitted :D
cheers, dd.
p.s. there was also strings of silicone sealant everywhere. needless to say i got rid of all that. oilpump gasket is the same as the gt250, so i put a new one of those on. easy job. one of those jobs that anybody could do. sorry i can't post any pics, but the s.d card out of my camera has gone walkabout somewhere

Super. A good result!

Wear on the end face cam would certainly not be good. That's the big problem with the Pilgrim pumps fitted to Scotts. The end faces are chromed but once the chrome wears off it wears rapidly so flow rate is not so good. The pump on our T20 was in excellent condition. This was a surprise as the previous owner had blasted and repainted all the parts. This was great except he didn't clean the oil tank properly so the pump had been inhaling oil with added grit. The big ends did not do so well :-(

he should know that if he's had the oil tank sandblasted the first thing to do is make sure it's washed out. common sense really. i bought a tiger cub back in 74 that had been fully rebuilt. tank blasted and you guessed it, not washed out. half way home the throttle stuck wide open and before i could cut the ignition the exhaust valve bent. bloody cowboys :D
cheers, dd.
