Left Side Oil Leak 1976 GT750

Long time no posting for me.

My Buffalo has started leaking quite a bit of oil from under the sprocket covers. I have removed the covers and can't tell if the leak is from the counter shaft or gear indicator switch. It looks like it is most likely the counter shaft based on what it looks like. I have not pulled the sprocket yet.

I am looking at the parts diagram and it looks like there is a spacer, a seal and it looks like 3 o-rings under the cover held on by 4 screws. The spacer looks to be unavailable, but it looks like the o-rings and oil seal are available still.

Unless I am missing something this looks like a pretty simple job to replace the rubber goods.

Looking for some thoughts or sage advice before I order parts and then pull the sprocket.

Have had leaks from the gear shifter oil seal on several bikes. The seal sits below the oil level so it can leak when parked. Doesn't leak much but it can accumulate & look like a bigger leak than it is.

Only had my 750K out once this year, now it started leaking oil while parked, oil is dripping from everything underneath on left side, I never gave the shifter shaft seal a thought, that sounds like a good place to look

A little more info. It doesn't leak when parked on side stand. It only appears to leak when being ridden. The fresh oil is coating everything on the engine case from the sprocket down. There is not much oil on the two covers.

I would expect if it was the gear indicator or shift shaft most of the fresh oil would be down low and not everywhere.

It's not to big of a job, you want to check the seal surface on the spacer to make sure it won't chew up the new seal,I believe there are two o rings behind the plate. I would change the o ring on the gear indicator switch while in there also, it's only a couple bucks and check the switch isn't cracked or loose.

I have ordered the 2 o rings, the oil seal and the spacer.

I also, just ordered the gear shift indicator o ring.

Quick update.

I have changed the rubber goods, spacer and used a smattering of Yamahabond 4 on the internal and external o rings of the gear indicator.

10 mile rest ride revealed no leaks. I need to ride it a little more before declaring it fixed. So far so good.
