Hi im new here.

Post by grahamS »

Hi peeps, I'm a new here, I recently purchased a (usa) 1973 gt550K, like the one I had back in 1973.

It's not running at the moment, got wiring to do, bad ignition switch, for one, replacing front loom as well.
Also been sorting other things out on it, clean carbs, setting them up,cleaning and replacing parts/items.
I also have a 2018 bonnie.

Welcome to the forum.
A GT550 & a modern Bonneville makes for a good combo.

Wasn’t able to look at your pics — it asked for a Google login.

Welcome in Graham. I did a 550k a few years ago - there should be a thread here somewhere, but it seems to be awol!
Anyway, here's a thread from another forum, so all isn't lost.... https://www.kettleclinic.co.uk/kcforum/ ... w+starting
Original thread here, but not much detail! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7095

Hi Alan, I've got in running of sorts, when I blip the throttle it over runs, would this be the crank seals are gone.

Hopefully not, it may just be that carbs & engine are clogged up after being stood for ages.

HI, peeps.

Well the bike is running, not perfect at the moment, it turned out to be a very small jet hole of which I missed cleaning it.

I took the bike to Alpha classic motorcycles, highbridge, somerset.

It didnt take them long to sort it out, with in one day.

cheers graham

I just finished a 72 GT380 made from parts which took 3.5 years, also exactly like the one I had in 73. Great looking bike in my opinion, but your 550 is the absolute best looker I think. The engine is in better proportion and just looks fabulous. Hope you get it all sorted out and get to enjoy it.
