72 GT380 First Start Up
Hello All. Finally nearing completion of my "build from parts" 380. Any suggestions on how to ensure oil is getting to cylinders/crank? I have the old red colored oil lines and I don't know if I'll be able to to see the oil getting past the check valves (oil pump held wide open). My oil lines came with the motor that had a new middle cylinder piston in it that had never been run. That concerns me about ensuring one or more of the valves are not blocked or the oil pump is working. I did not notice any problems with the engine on complete disassembly and rebuild. Any suggestions/help appreciated.

Put some oil in with the petrol to ensure 'some' lubrication is getting where it's needed, and wedge the oil pump lever to maximum open. When the bike settles to a fast tickover (1500 rpm or so) it will start to smoke heavier - hopefully on all 3 cylinders. That's when you know oil has got through.
Make sure the pump 'wedge' is removed before you go out for a run - the pump will return to normal if the engine is running.

Thanks Alan. What ratio of oil in petro would you suggest?

An eggcupful in a gallon of petrol should be enough.
I always use 'super' fuel - none of that veggie stuff!
