For Brace for a Suzuki GT550

Post by Tristan530 »

Hey folks,

I can find a few fork braces for a GT750, but not a GT550. So do I surmise from this that this is because the forks on a GT750 are not the same ones used on a GT550? Or there is something very particular about the forks of a GT550 that caused aftermarket companies not to bother with trying to serve GT550 owners?

See here https://www.fastec-racing.co.uk/product ... 7387487431

And why a brace for a GT500? https://www.caferacerwebshop.com/en/for ... mnEALw_wcB

And why a brace for a 1972 GT550 and only this one year?

Several differences in the forks, so make sure you get the brace that fits. Same with the GT750.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

The 72 GT550 & GT750 has the 4LS drum front brake, so the forks are different than on the later years.

Other years are different as well.

GT550 part #s
75 GT550 lower triple tree: 51410-31700
76 GT550 lower triple tree: 51410-34110
75/76 GT550 upper triple tree: 51311-34002
75/76 GT550 RH outer fork tube: 51130-31231

GT750 part #:
76 GT750 lower triple tree: 51410-31700
75 GT750 RH outer fork tube: 51130-31231
https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuk ... ering-stem
https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuk ... ork-gt750m

Per the part #s, the odds are good that GT750 fork brace also fits the GT550. (Excluding the 1972 models)
No guarantees -- online parts manuals aren't 100% correct.

Also, Spec2 lists the same fork brace for the GT550 & GT750:
http://www.spec2.com/clips.html#suz

The Fastec fork brace looks nice. Should confirm its for the later disk-braked 73-77 models.
