Suzuki T200 points cam question
I am trying to remove the bolt that holds the points cam. Does anyone know if it is right-hand or left-hand thread? Any tips on how to remove it, please?

Check here - https://alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm - pick year, model, alternator, then item 23 is marked L 78 which I take to be left hand thread, 78mm long. I'll make more inquiries, but that's my take so far.
Or look here - https://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_ ... /index.php - for service manuals. I have one at home, but unfortunately, I'm not there!!!

Re: Suzuki T200 points cam question
i know a lot of people will find this unbelievable, but alan got this one wrong
what it says on the parts list is 1, which is one off number of bolts. 8, which is the bolt is an 8mm. screw is obviously the bolt. but note the full stop after the word 'screw'. then L - which is length of bolt = 72mm. exactly the same as the t250 and gt250, the t200 cam bolt is a normal m8 thread and 72mm long
cheers, dd.
p.s. sorry alan

Re: Suzuki T200 points cam question
Well, there y'go. That's the third time in 70 years I've been wrong.
The first twice ended in divorce............
Details on the listing are 31791-11010 ROTER BOLT 1, 8 SCREW,L=72
Other than Roter being spelled in the traditional Japanese way....i.e. wrong, the second part of the part number is 'normally' the bolt details, so for instance 06258 is a 6mm bolt 25mm long hardness 8 (or standard).
On the T200 listing it makes no sense whatsoever so I'm pleased I sold the T200 and TC200 12 months ago, the troublesome lying little 2 cylinder gits. So there.

Re: Suzuki T200 points cam question
Thanks, Dollydog and Alan. You have both been very helpful. That is just what I needed to know. I have thought of another query. Would you know the best way to lock the engine to remove the bolt, please? Is putting the bike in a high gear and applying the rear brake a safe way of doing it?

Re: Suzuki T200 points cam question
I've always just used a ring spanner and a hammer. Just a quick knock or three and if that doesn't work, try in the opposite direction to loosen it (or if you were trying in the wrong direction!)
Remember when timing the engine, ALWAYS turn it in the direction it normally spins, never backwards.
I enjoyed my 200s, but felt a bit guilty on spinning 50 plus year old engines at high revs to get decent performance. I should have had one when I was half the weight I am now, but there again, that might have caused me to not be here now! I'll stick to the triples - Kettle's ok, but I still think the 550 is the best all rounder.

Re: Suzuki T200 points cam question
i'm with alan on this one. hold ring spanner on with right thumb and sharp clout with hammer - i usually use my rubber mallet - with left hand. sometimes needs a few goes at it, depending how tight it is
cheers, dd.

Re: Suzuki T200 points cam question
Thanks for the useful info. Once we knew that it wasn't left-hand thread, it came off with a bit more persuasion. The bike now runs with electronic ignition! It took a bit of fiddling to make it fit, but it started up very easily and ran sweet
