Please could some one confirm how to check the engine oil level as there is no dipstick or sight glass that I can see. Also what oil is used.
Cheers

Use the oil level screw bike on centre stand on level ground, or even better, drain the oil and fill with new.
AFAIK, all the 250 gearboxes are similar capacity - see attached pic.
Use the vertical drain under the engine - NOT the one on an angle as that is the gearchange détente and has a spring and plunger held captive.

you've been playing withh 550's too long alan. the 250 has 2 drain plugs, one under the gearbox and one under the clutch compartment, both for draining oil :D but, as you say, it's easier and more accurate to drain the oil and refill - after refitting the drain plugs of course - with 1300cc of 20/50 engine oil. sometimes you find an oil filler plug with a dipstick attached, but they aren't very accurate. the oil level hole ditto. for piece of mind i drain mine, measure and refill. don't forget, if the gearbox oil level drops too much then one of your main bearings will starve and seize
cheers, dd.

Aha! Never having had a 250 Suzuki (they were too expensive for an apprentice electrician back in the 60s), I thought it would be similar to the bigger 'uns. We live & learn, Ade.
