Accent help!

Post by Steve zodiac »

Hello.
I'm at my wit's end. I have just installed a Accent ignition to my T500. After spending 3 nights following the instructions to the letter. The bike will not even try to start.
There is a big fat spark on the timing marks. There is petrol.
There is compression. But not the faintest hint off starting.
Not even with easy start. Has anyone had any experience of anything like this?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards.
Sean.

I didn’t know Accent made a T500 kit. I followed the directions for the GT550 kit & it worked fine on the first try.

Might be able to help if you post a pic of the instructions, pics of what you did, and a detailed explanation of what you did.

Ah, there lies a problem. Not good with IT.
Instructions are as follows.
Ignition off.
Install back plate central to the adjustment slots.
Do not connect coils.
Rotate crank anti clockwise to line up timing marks on l/h cylinder.
Power on.
If led is on. Rotate aluminium disc anti clockwise till it's off.
Now rotate aluminium disc anti clockwise to the point where the led lights up.
Fix the aluminium disc at that position using the 2 grub screws.
Connect coils & kick.
I have followed these instructions to the letter time & time again. Nothing! Not a spit or splutter. Nothing.
There is a big fat white spark at both plugs when the timing marks line up.
It's as if. The plugs won't spark once in the engine.

What is the history? Did it start & run just fine before you started working on it?

Make sure you have a good battery that is fully charged.

Everything was fine. Just needed new points. So I thought I'd upgrade.
This system is not as simple as the 550 system.
It simply will not work on the 500.
Once the timing marks are aligned. The led and spark should happen in unison. But no. The spark occurred approximately 20deg after the led illuminates. 29deg too late!
I have had a mate round to re do the installation from scratch. Following the instructions. Just to illuminate any stupidity on my part.
He came to the same conclusion. It will not work on the T500.
So it's coming off & going back to Germany.
And I'll get a Newtronics system instead.

granted I did not fit it.
