Suzuki GT500 kickstart

Post by Pmd31421 »

Hi tried to start my GT500 today and the kickstart slipped . Initially thought it was the kickstart slipping on splines .
However kickstart lever splines are good , also kickstart shaft splines . The kickstart seems to grip then slip then again .
Anybody have this before ......... ideas before I strip casing etc off ?

It may be a broken kick start spring.doesnt happen often.theres not much else that can go wrong especially if its been trouble free.you could try tenchening first.not hard to do.

I would think it is a problem with the kick starter pawl slipping. Unfortunately I think you need to open the transmission to repair.

My GT500A kick starter pawl slips occasionally, so far it hasn't given up totally. I never had a 500 bottom end apart, but from the information I find, you need to split the cases to replace the pawl. The pawl is still available from Suzuki for only a few dollars.
