New Pointless Ignition

I read the instructions with the new ignition, remove 13 m nut and remove Cam Lobe. I read Haynes and it says DO NOT REMOVE NUT without removing side Crankcase Cover it spins and clips by hand-Nylon Gear stripped you think? So Confused, don't want to hurt my baby, although the sound did seem gear like before she left me on the side of the road.!

If you turn nut without holding inside, yes it will break the nylon gear.
Although it sounds like your gear may be broken already.

I'll have to pull the cover apart-sure is tight on there! Is the nylon gear notorious? or at least noisy before they let go? It was quite noisy from behind the point cover until the last ride then poof! I pushed it for a kilometer!

There have been many broken by turning nut.
Mine was broken when I got my 380 so I can't say if they are noisy before break, but I would think so.

Ah, OK
The cover is super tight, I'll be careful not to damage it. The Cam lobe is tight as well, I'd image it's pressed on the Shaft, did you change yours over to Electronic? When the bike died on the road, I decided that the Boyer kit was going to be installed. Guess I wasn't sure what the installation involved but here we are! lol

I run points so I can't help with electronic.
I think there are screws behind the ignition plate that need to come out.
When reinstalling you will need to line up timing marks. When I lined up my marks it fell on teeth and wouldn't mesh, so I went on the retarded side of tooth, you may want to check timing before closing up and filling oil

I will have to start from 0-the gear turned on me before I could set marks. The Haynes manual is a bit vague, my spare engine is seized so can't really see how the gears will line up. I want to secure the parts before I totally tear into it. I read a mark on the lower gear to match a pointer? This would be where the line before the "L" should be on the cover? Still foggy on this.

Yes the pointer is behind the cover,bolted to lower case, you line up the mark on the crankshaft gear with the pointer. Then align the red L line on timing propeller and slide the cover on.This is where my gears didn't mesh, some trial and error may be needed at this point.

That nylon gear Part # 12571-33032, caused me a bit of grief. Mine failed from old age in July. Fortunately I was close to home. I had another gear from a spare engine, but when I looked at it, I found it had developed a crack from old age also. It took me a month and $165 to find a replacement. It seems there is a bit of an inventory problem now. I have never tried to set timing by turning the gear. I put the bike on it's center stand, select top gear, and adjust by turning the rear wheel.
It is very important to get the alignment marks correct when installing the new gear. Getting the brake pedal, kick starter, and foot peg out of the way to remove the cover is not difficult. Not big task getting the mark on the gear aligned with the pointer. I have been running the Boyer Brandson ignition for quite a few years. I used a hollowed out spark plug to make a holder for my gage to mark TDC and the timing marks btdc. I used a timing light to verify it was correct. I have not had any problems with it, and the timing stays spot on.

If you got a broken nylon gear, would that afect all 3 cylinders? Or just one cylinder?
Cus i got no spark on left cylinder after installing accent ignition :/
I had spark on all 3 pluggs before installing the accent ignition.
And i did loosen the nut while holding on the rod with a flat screwdriver.
Any tip?

The nylon gear drives the points cam shaft,if the gear breaks big, the shaft stops turning,if the gear breaks small, it could skip or jump, but this would affect timing on all 3 cylinders. If you have spark on 2 cylinders but not on third, I would think it is some other reason.
