fuel tap leaking -GT 750j

Post by Monkey man »

Good evening

can anyone help with the following problem

I took my fuel tap apart to ensure it was clean but when i have put it back together again i notuce petrol flows when the tap is turned to prime and reserve but not when its in the on position

This is when the bike is not running as the carbs are getting sonically cleaned at the moment
my belief is that the petrol should not flow when the bike is standing and the fuel tap is set at reserve.

I havent renewed the inner circular 4 holed rubber seal -could this be the problem .

I would say yes, if there is a bad spot on the seal it can leak into one of the other ports and bypass the vacuum plunger that controls on and reserve, which only flow when engine is running. These plungers are known to leak by sometimes not stopping the flow, but it sounds like yours is stopping flow when in on position, so I would change the inner 4 hole seal first.
Unless fuel level is below the on position.
