Wish I knew. Like you say, definitely not a big bike. Perhaps a 125. The disc looks unusual and considerably more modern than our 1970-80s strokers. I wonder if that would be the key to determining the wheel's origin.

DBI Dynamic Bike Innovation appears to be an aftermarket parts manufacturer in Japan.

My guess is that its from a bike with a twin-piston caliper. What is the Disc OD in mm?

Done a little research. The markings on your hub B.D.I mean;
"The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI, BDI-1A, BDI-II), created by Aaron T. Beck, is a 21-question multiple-choice self-report inventory, one of the most widely used psychometric tests for measuring the severity of depression. Its development marked a shift among mental health professionals, who had until then, viewed depression from a psychodynamic perspective, instead of it being rooted in the patient's own thoughts."
See how useful a quick search on wikipedia is?
Futaba is a japanese company. So I am guessing that a depressed japanese guy made your wheel. That might explain the tear shaped pattern on your disc. Obviously, he was particularly sad when he designed that bit.
There now, see? Problem solved. I'm not as useless as my ex-wife used to tell me after all! :D

He said if was "BDI", not "DBI" jab. And anyway, I've already solved the mystery of what it means, so don't worry, I feel sure I've steered DD in the right direction. Its only a formality that, now armed with the information I have supplied, DD will be able to find out who made the wheel. :up:

there is a company in thailand called bdi that make alloy bits. i already knew that, just didn't fancy phoning them up to ask :D a few more clues: the disc is 220mm o.d. the spindle size is 12mm. the tyre is a 3.00 x 17 and the markings on the rim say: J17 X 1.40 C 12 86 DOT. from that i'm guessing it was made december 1986? also on the rim is: FUTUBA JAPAN J1.40 X 17 - 1707 - 1.2.
hope this helps :D
cheers, dd.

Aha! All the best women come from Thailand (Did I mention my wife is Thai?). Perhaps they make great wheels too! Some of the Thai motorcycles are quite good from what I have seen while over there. Perhaps it is from a Thai bike?
