took her out!

Post by johnakay »

after sorting my brackets out on the nose fairing etc. took the old girl out for a short spin.feeling a bit anxious.is she gonna conk out on me up the road,I'm going to push it back home.anyway I needn't worry she went fine.a slight surging on the over run or slowing down. but god does she vibrate between 3200-4000 revs.took her up to 70mph @ 4100 revs vibs almost gone.as for the nose fairing its perfect no wind blast etc.so will get it painted next week..theres a little oil on the tacko (oil pump)not sure if its need a new rubber ring.might not amount to much.over all a very happy chappy
heres a pic withe the said fairing.

Pics look great. Reminds me of a (Mead Speed?) fairing I had on my FS1E in the early 80s..
.. yes I know.

Hey John,

Glad to see you got another beautiful T500! I always thought you regretted selling your green '72.

I did Jim for years keep thinking wished I'd kept her.
wanted another but not at those silly prices we have here.
£2 grand for a none runner that's $2550.
one came up on FaceBook this you will already know from previous post.
after all I've done so far the bike owes me £600 or there about.
sold about 35 grab rails to a kawasaki triple dealer.
so in a affect £200 in materials and the rest just labour thats how I got the bike.
if it hadn't been that way I wouldn't have the 500 now.
I'm having teething problems at the moment.
its that left pot again she's not having it.
thought it was the plug cap fault so changed it ran ok after a test ride.
had oil pump leak so bought a set of seals.
seeing me and my wife are going to the scottish highlands for a week on my newer bike.
thought I'll let JMC restorations deal with it (again grab rails pays for it,he buys off me now and again)
bike started 1st kick then I can hear knocking noise. not sure if the air mixture is too lean or rich even though its 1 1/4 out from fully in.
keep cutting out at junctions/traffic lights.its only 2 miles from my house.
the guy said he'll have a look at it,compression test etc etc.
one thing for sure I'm gonna fit those electronic ignition kits (Powerdynamo)
I can't be bothered messing about with points.
this bike is a keeper till I can no longer ride bikes.

Little higher pitch knocking? Perhaps small end going= Cheap to fix
Deeper louder knocking? Perhaps Big end going= Not cheap to fix
Is the knocking under pressure? or on the overrun?
Knocking only on the overrun? Perhaps piston slap due to worn bores
Nice looking bike though. I'm sure it will be well worth fixing.

just does with full choke on but once moving it goes away and it doesn't do it all the time.
I mention that to jmc fella and he said its nothing to worry about probably need the mixture screw setting up.
I'll find out exactly what is what ,when I come back next week after my trip to bonnie Scotland.

Wow. I just got back from there too!
As it only does it with choke on, it could be nothing too bad. Just like the JMC fella said, once you've got the carbs working better, it might go away. So don't panic just yet. I doubt it is a major mechanical defect.
