T500 securing the gearbox oil dam mod

Post by PhilatHooton »

Having acquired a rubber repro of the mod from the states i'm wondering whats the best way of securing it in place .
Can't see how this can make an oil tight seal just sitting on the casing..
A dab of Michel gasket cement or something similar perhaps ?

43 looks and no one answers?
what happened to this forum since Eric ran it.
you were guaranteed but lately fook all is happening.
is there any wonder why a lot go to facebook forum.
you get a much better response on there than you do on here.
If I wanted to make a life-long career out of

have opened a Harley Davidson Dealership

Thanks for at least replying John.
Was thinking the same myself. It's not the most difficult of questions and i'm sure quite a few people have done it and having read it was better to affix it with something was wondering what was recommended ?
My first Suzy rebuild and it's going well. I hope i don't get really stuck
Cheers.

Hi Phil, I did mine with threebond, and seems to have been OK so far. Not the easiest stuff to use .. had to tape it in position while it went off. Might be something better to use of course..
Are you in the Wirral then? Im originally from Bebington but now down South but get up occasionally, usually for the Classic TT.
Hoping to take the T500 over next year...good luck with the bike.
Cheers

I,d rough it up and use Jb weld ,it's always a worry if it gets loose and blocks some passageway though, seems whenever I need important info this forum vanishes and says bandwith exceeded!

Thanks guys,
I'm going with you Ross and will use some Michel (Kawabond) gasket cement. When the cases are together it can't go any where so
it was more about making the increased height oil tight.
Not far from Bebington so next time your up we'll have a pint at the Tap :)
Cheers
