Hi All

Anyone know the part number for the upper race (loose one not frame inserted) for the GT250? There's one on ebay but it doesn't look like the
badly pitted one I just removed.

Cheers

Hi Thanks - that was the one I was looking at but mine is different. on the non-bearing side it has a raised lip on the inner diameter and on the bearing side there is more of a 'channel'. I guess I should just buy it and see.

hi dax, judging by your description you've got an outer race, instead of an inner. the very top race should fit inside the balls and push them out slightly, so they sit right on the race that's inside the frame. then your plastic cover, then the threaded castle nut. hope that all makes sense? :D
cheers, dd.

sorry mate, but can't see your photo, but very top race should have no side on it, if that makes sense? basically if you put a ball bearing on the race surface itself, it would roll off until you stick it with grease, there's nothing to hold it there, unlike the next race down, which has a side to it. get your bottom yoke and drop the new top race on it [the one on ebay], it should drop down to a shoulder just below the threads on the steering stem, then it should stop, and it's correct. if it doesn't, then it's the very bottom race that sits on the bottom yoke. they look very similar, but the bottom one has a slightly bigger i.d. :D phew :D
cheers, dd.
try this.

balls all same size at 1/4 inch as you say. just don't forget to leave one out when you refit them - but suppose you know that anyway :D odd how jap bikes always used imperial sized ball bearings isn't it? :D
cheers, dd.
