GT500: Bike starts but only runs at high throttle

GT500:

Bike is now finally starting condition from non-running for very long time.

I do not have air-filter element on currently. It has only air-filter rubber boots on.
I have not installed metal air-filter housing either.
I wanted to see if I can start the bike and keep it running before moving on.

Engine starts after giving choke and after few kicks, but
it dies down immediately.

To keep it running, I have to rush to grab the throttle and twist it.
Even then it is hard to keep it running. Engine just wants to die down.
I can see fuel line is full of fuel.

What could be causing this?

Thanks.

This might help others more quickly help you to see what you have done so far and save you the time of explaining again about what has been done so far.

Try swapping out the carb slides left to right, the angled cut out of the slide should be facing towards the engine, not towards airbox.

The previous post is incorrect. The slide cut aways go DEFINITELY to the back/airbox side of the carbs. If you have them the wrong way, the engine will not tick over, it will start and stay running on an open throttle, but will die once the throttle is released.

If your slides are correct, I would check the pilot jets first, they may be blocked.
