t500k candy red paint?

Post by johnakay »

does anyone know the nearest car or bike colour to the old candy red(to you and me pink)
its a shame to do a full respray ..tank/oil tank are fine but the plastic cover is a bit scratched up near the top.

I don't know how faded the paint is, if at all (original or repaint?) but have you considered the small touch up quantities offered by ....http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"

Drop down menu shows Red Candy for '73 but then on ' T500 (US) ' 1970....shows 'Targa Red (Candy)'

I enter 'Targa red paint' into google images tab and does this look close to your color also?

https://www.google.com/search?q=targa+r ... 80&bih=871" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"

Maybe you could blend in some touch up of whatever color you choose to the nicks, scratches on the cover.

Good Luck

The scratches are most easily solved by telling people that the paint is original & in excellent shape with just a little patina on the side cover.

thanks.
I've decided to get a full respray.
same pattern but using mazda red(Soul Red Crystal) instead of candy red.
the guy who is painting it said he'll paint in the white and blue strips in.
he has done paint work before for me so I know he'll do a good job and cheap to.
£130 all in.

Is there a company with a comparable offering in the US?

Maybe but not that I know of. I contacted Randy at http://marblesmotors.com/shop/?filter_producttype=paint" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" in Texas a good while back to see if he had the Maui Blue for my '75 T500 but he said the only one of those models paint he had in his data base from an original part scan, was for a Cobra 500.....not my color. :(

The general consensus is that his company is one of 'the best of the best' in the country. Some here may have seen the company's work, aside from the website, at different events around the country.

Couldn't hurt to call him and ask about your bike.

Good Luck

The RS website has an option to select your country. Its to the left of the Shopping Basket.
http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php

Select the “US”, then go to the page “About”. Delivery to the US takes about one week.

according to my painter as well others I've spoken RS dont always get it right.
one guy paid a small fortune to get his tank etc done in candy lavender.
it came out to dark did it again and it still wasn't right.
RS said hes not putting it on right despite the fact he has followed instructions.
other have had the same problems.
I think it a hit or miss, some times they get it right other times they dont.

I have no experience with RS paints.

But per my GT550 cafe build painter…
The candy paints are three layer: base paint, paint & clear coat. The final color depends on how much paint you apply over the base paint.
The aztec gold on my GT550 cafe build is a three layer paint. The painter did some sample pieces to get the correct amount of paint.

My 71 T350 is also aztec gold. The side covers tend to crack near the chrome fake air inlets. I bought some NOS side covers as spares. Even Suzuki messed this up from time to time — one wasn’t even close to the same paint color as the others.

Hi John,

Just sent you a post about your contact details as am interested in a rack for my 1976 Suzuki GT 750.

I am down in essex and there is a paint shop that has a machine they scan one of your panels and match the paint. They will even make up an aerosol can if you want.

Cheers

Mick

thanks but have decided to paint the bike as stated above.
I rarely make racks these days only to order.
I will not chrome them because I can't guarantee the end product finnish.
its a hit and missed mostly on the rack bit.
grab rails no problem.
I will make them but you will have to get it chromed yourself.
