How do you guys price a bike you're going to sell?

Post by Frank »

I'm thinking about selling my '73 T500. Just too many bikes and running out of garage space. I'm second owner, it's been rebuilt top and bottom a couple thousand miles ago and runs great, mild porting, stock pipes, carbs bored, original paint and seat (it could stand a seat cover). KBB suggests somewhere between 1500-3000 but I'm not sure how this might translate to real world. I'm open to any ideas or comments. Thanks!

In the UK a lot (most?) bike are sold on ebay. Their search facilities allow you to look at recently completed sales which may give you some idea BUT of course there's no substitute from seeing a bike close up to get an accurate comparison. Do you have a local vintage Japanese m/c club nearby that can help with a valuation?

bikes like the T500 dont sell for much in the state like they do here.
a lot of ebay T500's got high prices but never sells.
they just disappear off the radar.
I dont believe they sell for those inflated prices coz if they did they wouldn't on ebay for long.
there's a guy trying to sell an american import T500k on F/BOOK with dented tank broken side panel seized engine name just a few.
he also blocked any comments.what does that tell you

Let's try this then:

https://flic.kr/p/29mo6XR" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have the turn signals in a box somewhere (removed for a land speed event).

NADA puts the value about $1000.

I would say if you found a buyer at $1000, I would take it. As good as she may run, it is a bit rough as far as curb appeal goes. You being up north doesn't help you have a large number of buyers.

Good luck.

Rough!? In the UK that's called 'patina' and fetches a premium :) . I'm not expert on the 500s but I would think if that was a UK registered bike it would be in the 3000 USD (over 2000 GBP) region. Just sayin'

gotta disagree Daxman.
they don't sell for that much.
ebay sellers are chancers.
I watch most of them and more often than not seller removed listing etc.
even high price ones never sell either just removed.
keep an on this one it been up for well over a month and I can tell you now it will not be sold for this price....

i try not to use ebay to sell bikes, or most other things, but i use gumtree. no fees for a start :D if i was selling a bike i would work out what it was worth to me and add £500 to the price, because you can guarantee the messages you get would be "nice bike. i'm very interested, cash buyer, are you open to offers?" but of course, come and view. as long as they don't offer something stupid then sale complete :D do you have free things like gumtree over there? i know you have craigslist, but don't know how it works :(
cheers, dd.
