Spotted this last night.. wasn't sure at first if as just a blemish in the paint but its the same on both side of the engine mount lug. Is this common? I guess the solution is to grind a vee in it and weld it up unless anyone knows different..

.. I did also think of adding a brace with some 4mm (3/16) bar between the front mounts..

Cheers

I just went to that post of yours about the clock I.D. and got the pic via your image hosting site link...uploaded that pic to Imgur pic hosting site (free) and then simply posted the URL (for message boards and forums) for your pic. I didn't mean to 'horn in'..... I just didn't think you would be backed logged in here as quick as you were.

Very unusual. Remember to remove the battery when welding and put your earth connection as close as possible to where you're actually welding and definitely not on tbe engine.

OK thanks - need to get the welder sort first - wire feed is temperamental..

This bike sure is throwing up some challenges - even though it has spent the last 16 years in a garage there is no doubt it spent a lot of time outside before that.
Last night I discovered left hand barrel has dodgy exhaust threads, also the seat base is just lace - same for mudguards. Fuel tap has corroded to 'paste' by the inside mesh
filters. The clocks are wrong too and i think I only just got the carbs in the nick of time. The kick-start was starting to slip a bit on the splines etc.. etc..
Still I have a decent spark and I had it running briefly last night albeit on one cylinder only..

Cheers

If you have two fractures like this it could be due to repeated stress I guess. But it might be worth considering the possibility of accident damage. Might be worth getting it welded and checked to see if the frame is straight
