Hi guys im new to the forum i've just treated myself to a second bike which is in decent shape. Im looking to check transmission oil but cant find any information including in the clymer manual. So how do you check it and were? Thanks in advance.

Look for a screw in the clutch cover, right behind the brake pedal. You'll need a 10mm socket or large philips screwdriver.
Remove the screw and that's your oil level!
It's number 36 in the picture. Just ahead and a bit below the kickstarter shaft.

Just my personal view. I never use the oil level plug I always measure the quantity IN and OUT with a suit able measuring jug. I don't know which of your listed bikes you are doing but the amount of transmission oil required is cast into the cover near to the filler neck.

You can see the oil level if you look down the crankcase oil filler hole.
So you can keep track of the oil level if you do something consistent like leave the bike on the center stand overnight.

This works for the twins, GT750 & GT550 but not the GT380.

Very helpful all the above and a last question. Which is the transmission drain bung ? i've looked under the case and can see two around 17 mm approx ?

The bolt that is flat to the case is the sump plug the one at an angle is the detent plunger spring bolt. Try not to disturb that one it affects gear changing.
