I have a couple of questions,
Tubes have dry rotted, can I just block off both ends?
When I took bike out of storage (10 yrs.) the CCI tank was dry all the oil has drained into crank.
Pulled the sris ck. valves out to drain, should I have drained the tank before storing? Or do I have a problem with injector pump?
Thanks
Paul

Re: GT550 SRIS system
Yes, you can just remove the tubes and block off the nipples but make sure you block them with something strong to avoid leaks. Perhaps find some short, small Allen bolts or similar with a thread diameter about the same as the SRIS nipples, and epoxy them into place.
The tank will drain over time, from memory there is no check valve between the tank and pump, so eventually the oil has just dribbled through the pump and lines into the cases. The good news is, the oil should hopefully have preserved the seals and crank bearings.

Are you talking about blocking off the oil lines so you can run on premix?

Re: GT550 SRIS system
NOS SRIS lines & clips are still available from Suzuki if you want to go that route.
Early GT550s have check valves that were press fit into the crankcase.
1973 & later GT550s have check valves that screw into the crankcase.
GT380s use the same check valves. For 1977 Suzuki got rid of the SRIS on the GT380s. They used bolts + washers instead of the check valves. Use can use the same bolts + washers on the 1973 & later GT550s.
I got rid of the SRIS lines on a 74 GT380 motor. Used the bolts + washers on the crankcase. On the cylinder fittings I used the combo of high temp silicone sealant + vacuum port rubber caps + a zip tie.

Re: GT550 SRIS system
Remember the SRIS is the recycle system, CCI is the injection system.sportston wrote:Are you talking about blocking off the oil lines so you can run on premix?
If the oil tank has drained, it will be the CCI system that has allowed oil to pass. As you surprise suggests, the CCI lines from the pump to engine should NOT be removed and blanked off as the crank and bearings will not be lubricated properly and will quickly fail unless the oil slingers on the crankshaft are removed and other work done.
If the bike is run regularly, a slight weep into the cases shouldn't cause a problem. Depends on how fast it leaks and whether it's into all three crankcases or just 1.

Re: GT550 SRIS system
Thanks for the input, it is a 76 so the ck.valves are threaded in. and I do agree that the cci tank leaking into the crank was a good thing.
I think I will replace the sris tubes, the ck. valves seem to work so I will reuse them.
Thanks
Paul

Re: GT550 SRIS system
Take the 'spider' out from under the pump and fill all the lines with a syringe. Hang it up and look next day, that'll show what - if anything - leaks, and how much.
Then the swearing starts.

Ah. My bad. Got the two confused. Thanks for the correction.Alan H wrote:Remember the SRIS is the recycle system, CCI is the injection system.sportston wrote:Are you talking about blocking off the oil lines so you can run on premix?
