are these dealers any good or trustworthy.
I've seen a couple of negatives on here and other places.
but sometime just sour grapes.
I seem to remember Peter Odell had problems from these folks running off with his money on conrods.
seen these one ebay.
thought these were complete discontinued.
I know one time Crooks did a batch but using outer all case's.

There have been the odd issue or two from time to time. I have bought and used GT750 and GT550 pistons and gaskets and intake rubbers and other parts and so far only one clamp was a problem out of dozens of transactions. I have installed several sets of their pistons and even though they are cast and not designed for racing, I have run then for several years now in my drag race bike which is regularly revved to 8,000 or more. I would not recommend that anyone else repeat that, but they are perfectly good for any street motor.

I have no experience with the big end parts but would have no problem using them in a street bike. They are really good at answering questions and have often refunded shipping when I ordered several parts at once they passed those saving back to me.

agree totally with tz, never had a problem with anything i've had off cruzinimage :D
ordered parts on thursday night and received on next tuesday morning. japan to england :D
pity half the uk sellers aren't as quick or reliable with their goods :cry:

Apparently the above bearings had the oil hole drillings in the wrong place.

So far I am the odd man out. I have bought several things from him/her (pistons, gasket etc.) and all were a bit off . Would these flaws affect reliability? Reason tells me it could. After all the effort and money I put into my bikes, having Peace of Mind as I run mile after mile is priceless. I never used any of the pistons due to reverse engineering dimension/tolerance issues and gaskets I used failed and leaked.


With that said I was very interested in his GT550 rods. If they are out of spec, I won't use. One would think these could be reversed engineered very easily and verified before sold. Right?

In the latest issue of Classic Mechanics, there's an article by Stan Stephens about rebuilding a 550 motor. It mentions the conrods are NLA, and uses a Kawasaki rod with some modifications. I'll try and remember to look it up and post what it says here.

Sorry for the delay in finding the info. The article covers a full rebuild and 'fast road' tune of a GT550. Stephens mentions that Suzuki rods are NLA, and says his crank rebuilder (Grampian Motors, pretty well known in the UK) uses rods from a KTM 200.

Here's the link to a PDF I made of it, it's a bit vague on detail but Grampian Motors seems to have rods, crank seals etc. I don't know if they will sell these parts for you to use, or if they only sell them as part of a rebuild.

didn't Peter Odell gave them 3 grand for t500 conrods only to keep the cash and not honoured the deal a couple of years ago?

I think someone here did the KTM 200 rod swap 2-3 years back but the person who did it for him forgot the 1mm extra length initially. But that is not that too much to correct and not a bad idea. Forgot about that rod swap. Also the crank pin for gt550 is still available from Suz. rods for KTM $60.00 on ebay at the moment.


What sucks is the crank pin for GT380 is not available. Separate post coming

Yes, I noticed the petroil suggestion too ...

You're right, SEP rebuilt a 550 motor but didn't use spacers under the cylinders, so the pistons were clipping the head gasket or head.

IIRC, 550 rod is 117mm Ctr to Ctr and KTM is 118mm - BUT the 550 pistons are typically 0.5mm below deck at TDC, so all it should (small word with enormous implications perhaps) need is a 0.5mm thicker base gasket. Or if machine the heads slightly to provide optimum clearance.

The article by Stan Stevens did suggest that a KTM rod was not a straight swap but forgot to tell us what the problem and fix were. :?

He does say - if he was tuning it for maximum power he would run it on premix - the T500 can be modified to run on pre-mix, I'm guessing Stan knows how to mod GT550s to run on premix too
