hi all - having problems with the five wire rectifier on a GT250K - I've got a three wire type from a GT500 - does anyone know if this can be used with a few mods to the wiring -

With some rewiring you can use the GT500 rectifier. The GT500 rectifier grounds through the mounting stud, so that needs to be a good ground.

An alternative would be to use a modern single-phase rectifier/regulator. The modern unit is around 8% more efficient so you get a smidgen more output. It also regulates the max voltage so you can safely use a maintenance free battery.

Stock, the GT250K does not have a voltage regulator & you shouldn’t use a modern maintenance free or AGM battery.

Fitting a Tympanium rectifier/regulator fixed a lot of problems on my T350.

We used a Tympanium R/R on the GT250 cafe project.

Thanks guys -think got it sussed spliced the red lead in to two for battery pos lead and also the two red/ green leads - battery now charging but alternator seems to be getting a bit hot -is the way I have wired it up correct ?

i used a solid state reg/rec on mine and it works perfectly - just remember to get a single phase one though - and put an inline fuse on the live wire for some reason the 250's had no regulator, as jabcb said, they used the battery voltage as the regulator - don't ask me how. mine was a suzuki one, not one of the little square ones, and i use a gel battery, which has been no problem.

What do you mean by a bit hot?

Thanks jabcb that's the way have it wired - when I say it's a bit hot it's just that the casings feel hot there again the bike had just done a ten mile run I'll check it again at the weekend

all sorted - thanks guys its charging fine now but has now blown its crank seals - ah well you cant have it all
