Hello,

I need to replace my fork tubes and I understand that Yamaha XS1 34mm dia fork tubes can be shortened and used for a T250. Has anyone done this successfully? Do the ends match up to the T250 and are there any tricks or problems you need to watch for in doing this? Thanks

Do you mean the stanchions?
You can get them new for the GT250. Not sure if they fit the earlier T250
You can get your old ones straightened and re-chromed at places like the one below

Yes, the stanchions. Thanks for the info which I will check out. I don't know if the early model T250 are the same as the GT250, I suspect not.

Sorry, You've done what Alan? You mean you replaced the T250 with later GT250 stanchions? Or swapped them for cut down Yamaha ones?

l cut 650 xs1 forks to fit t250.has to be xs1 or 1b ,34mm dia.take new xs tubes and old t250 tubes to engineer and tell him to cut lower end (not thread end).cost me about $80 pair to do.thread end has the same top nut on both bikes.

Seemed to have struck a problem with using Yamaha fork tubes as I contacted MicksXS.net and they advised?

Unfortunately, We do not offer inner fork tubes for the 1970 or the 1971 XS650. You may be able to do an internet search for a complete front end. Most of these components are not so easily available. We offer the inner fork tubes for the XS-2 but they are different internally from the earlier models. They are however 34mm O.D.

As long as they are 34mm and have the same top bolt which Im sure they do these tubes will work.I found mine cheaper by searching ebay.

Forking by Frank makes new fork tubes. Their list of available tubes includes the XS1 & members of the XS650 forum have bought them.
They do not list the T250, but they likely make them. If not you could try ordering the XS1 tubes cut to the length you need.

Forking by Franks has been around for a long time. I was surprised to see they updated their website.
They may still operate in the “old school” mode, so be patient if you have some difficultly contacting them.

There also is an Italian company that makes fork tubes, but its 6AM & maybe I’ll remember the name after some coffee.
