Tool for installing front forks

Went to put on my front forks today on my T500 and realized I needed a special tool (bolt) to pull them up. I doubt if Homedepot is going to have a bolt long enough with the right threads. Anyone have any ideas where I might find a bolt to fit the forks.

Be adventurous and wander on down there. I needed to do the same job on my T500 last year and went to my local hardware store and sure enough they had a bolt - long enough and right thread. Worked a treat and cost about $1.30

Since my case is split I had an engine bolt right under my nose the whole time that did the trick.

OK, I am going to sound stupid, I have a GT500 in which I replaced fork seals, and head bearings. I did not use any special tools or bolts to reassemble everything, so my question is , what did you need it for?

T500 forks are different than GT500 forks. GT500 forks are "traditional" 35mm fork tubes where the T500 forks are "notched" at the top to fit into a smaller diameter hole in the upper triple. You need a longer bolt to draw the fork up into the upper triple clamp.

Ah.... So the upper is not a traditional "clamp"... It fits into a recess and a bolt is used to secure it...
