T500 Oil Pump Adjustment

I restored a 72 T500 a couple of years ago and the oil pump was stripped down, cleaned and a new seal kit fitted. The oil pump seems to put out too much oil when set up with the recommended factory settings with the cable and the arm markings etc. Are there any additional tips that I can check out to help sort this?

How are you determining that the oil pump puts out too much oil?

The engine is completely new and is being run in and seems to put out a lot of smoke. After approx 300 kms of riding around town and on small runs, the oil level dropped to just above half way in the sight glass on the oil tank. I have checked the oil pump settings and cable and everything is set up as per the Suzuki service manual instructions. The oil lines have new balls, springs and seats and did not leak when tested before being fitted to the bike. All of the oil line banjos are good with not leaks.

Roughly what does your oil consumption work out to in either miles/quart or km/liter?

An estimate would be approx 350-400ml = 300kms

That’s around 1/3 quart in 200 miles, or around 600 miles per quart.
I don’t put enough miles per year on any of my two strokes to know what they are getting, but your oil consumption looks fine.

Thanks for that, I'll measure out the exact amount of top up oil next time..
